The 2010 Mount Isa FOGS Indigenous Employment and Careers Expo was held at the Xstrata Entertainment Centre on Wednesday 2 June with great success!

Over 500 Indigenous job seekers and school leavers from Mount Isa and surrounding areas were drawn to the event which featured the attendance of prominent Queensland employment, education and training providers exhibiting opportunities in a wide range of industries. The employment, education and training providers seeking interest from Mount Isa’s Indigenous community included Australia Post, Construction Skills Queensland, Greyhound Australia, Thiess, Tourism Queensland, Westpac, Woolworths, James Cook University, Queensland Apprenticeship Services and TAFE Queensland.

The event also featured the attendance of a host of Former Origin Greats who encouraged Mount Isa’s Indigenous community to make the most of the unique opportunity to speak one-on-one with potential employers. Queensland State of Origin assistant coach Allan Langer, Queensland State of Origin selector Gene Miles and Queensland’s first ever State of Origin captain Arthur Beetson were joined at the expo by members of Queensland’s ‘Best Ever’ State of Origin team Gary Belcher, Chris Close and Steve Walters along with other Former Origin Greats including Greg Conescu, Sam Backo, Tony Currie and Greg Dowling.
