Rockhampton job seekers and school leavers were treated to a special appearance by Sam Thaiday at the 2011 Rockhampton FOGS Indigenous Employment and Careers Expo on Wednesday August 24.

Thaiday was a late addition to the team of Former Origin Greats and current players showing their support at the event held at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.

Among the other stars greeted warmly at the expo were Sam Backo, Gary Belcher, Allan Langer, Steve Walters, Colin Scott, Ashley Harrison, Steve Price, and Steve Bell.

Over 1,500 Indigenous job seekers and school leavers from Rockhampton and surrounding areas were drawn to the event together with more than 50 prominent Queensland employment, education and training providers.

The high calibre and wide range of exhibitors at the expo was exemplified by the presence of organisations such as Australia Post, Construction Skills Queensland, Central Queensland University, Defence Force Recruiting, Ergon Energy, James Cook University, the Red Cross, Rio Tinto, TAFE Queensland, Tourism Queensland, Thiess, University of Queensland, Westpac, and Woolworths.

Worldskills Try a Trade displays also gave attendees ‘hands-on’ work experience in the construction, mechanical, defence, beauty and health industries.

Horses brought to the event by the Australian Agricultural College Corporation added energy to the day’s festivities.

The inaugural Toowoomba FOGS Indigenous Employment and Careers Expo will be held on September 14.

The final Expo in the 2011 FOGS Indigenous Employment and Careers Expo series will be held at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on October 5.
