Billy Slater’s Maroons have history on their side when they seek revenge against NSW in next month’s series-deciding third game at Suncorp Stadium next month.

It will not guarantee them a 27th State of Origin series victory since 1982, Slater knows that.

But it’s a bogey statistic the Blues and coach rookie coach Michael Maguire will have to shut out in the week leading into the 11th series decided to be played in Queensland.

Queensland has risen to the occasion eight times with one decider drawn (10-10) at Suncorp Stadium in 1999.

The Cauldron, or Lang Park as it was known in the formative years of Origin, has been Queensland’s fortress.

The last time NSW won a decider at Suncorp was in 2005 when Newcastle’s Danny Buderus led them to a 32-10 victory.

Queensland’s response was to win the next eight straight series (2006-2013).

The Maroons have won nine of the past 10 series deciders since 2006 and the last six played at Suncorp Stadium.

The August 17 clash is already sold out with over 50,000 fans having snapped up tickets.
