Brisbane-born journeyman Chris McQueen has called an end to his first-grade rugby league career at the age of 36.

Fog#175, McQueen has blown the whistle on a career that included a drought-breaking NRL Premiership with South Sydney in 2014 and six State of Origins matches for Queensland.

He was a member of the 2013 Maroons which completed the record eight straight Origin series wins playing all three games when Queensland came back from 0-1 down.

He also made one international appearance for England under Wayne Bennett against Samoa after rejecting previous offers from England because of his desire to represent Queensland.

McQueen played for three clubs in Australia, South Sydney (116), Gold Coast Titans (38), and Wests Tigers (10) for a total of 164 games.

The popular Aussie added another 75 games playing for Huddersfield Giants in the English Super League bringing his career total to 239.

He scored a try on debut for Souths in their 36-22 win over Manly in round nine of 2009.

A rangy 189cm winger who switched to the back-row in 2013, he had a lot of natural pace at 106kgs, retiring with 68 tries in his career.

McQueen won the prestigious Lance Trodd Trophy as player of the match in last year’s Challenge Cup from a losing side.

Unconfirmed rumours however surfaced this week that the Aussie was in negotiations to play in the French Elite One competition, with both Carcassonne and Limoux being named as interested in securing him.
