The 2015 State of Origin Series is one that will be remembered for years to come with Queensland’s incredible decade of domination continuing.
Origin III, a sentimental occasion marking 35 years to the date the first State of Origin Game was played in 1980, when the late great Arthur Beetson led the very first Queensland State of Origin side out onto Lang Park in front of 33,210 fans. Queensland won that game 20-10. The end of the 2015 Series saw the current generation of Maroon champions immortalised as one of sport’s greatest teams after delivering a State of Origin masterclass to seal their ninth series win in ten years with Queensland’s highest ever score of 52 points against the Blues 6 and setting an all-time Origin record winning margin of 46 points.
The game cemented some of the greatest milestones the interstate rivalry has ever seen. Cameron Smith equalled Darren Lockyer’s record of 36 Origin appearances, Johnathan Thurston played his thirty-third consecutive Origin match for Queensland, he surpassed the record for the most goals converted in an Origin Game booting nine from nine generously providing the tenth conversion of the match to retiring great Justin Hodges, he accomplished the most points in an Origin game with a total of 18 and with an accumulative tally of 200 Origin points in his career, broke that record previously held by Mal Meninga. The game also saw Greg Inglis achieve the most tries scored when he crossed for his seventeenth in the origin arena.
