This was the final address from Queensland Rugby League President Ron McAuliffe just minutes before the game that would change Australian sport, Rugby League and the great state of Queensland forever. McAuliffe was not overstating it. After decades of having Queensland’s best players wear sky blue against their own state, the night of July 8, 1980 was the Maroons’ line in the sand. This night was not interstate Rugby League. This was State of Origin.
