It’s business as usual for the former Origin Greats, despite their offices being submerged when Suncorp Stadium was turned into Sunk-orp Stadium by the Queensland flood disaster.

Images of the playing surface at the iconic stadium completely underwater during the height of January’s floods were beamed around the world.

What wasn’t seen though was the damage caused to the FOGS’ offices, which are located on the ground floor of the stadium on Castlemaine St.

“Things weren’t too pretty when the water came up, that’s for sure,” said FOGS Executive Chairman Gene Miles.

“We had six feet of water come right through the office, which was obviously very disappointing seeing as it is not that long ago that we had the place refurbished and looking just right.

“Thankfully, we were able to get all of the important things like our files, computers and memorabilia out of the office in time before the water came through.

“But obviously there were a lot of things we couldn’t take with us, and they have just been destroyed.

“All the furnishing and fittings and furniture are all ruined now, and the offices themselves will have to be gutted and redone from scratch.

“So that was disappointing, but I think we all know that there are a lot of Queenslanders out there doing it a lot tougher than us.”

But with the computers and files saved, the FOGS have been able to swing straight back into action after the Christmas break by relocating to a temporary home until the Suncorp Stadium offices are repaired.

“We have been very fortunate to have been offered the use of some rooms at the Iceworks, just up the road, which has allowed us to get moving on what will be a very busy year,” Geno said.

“We may be here for the next month or so, but just having somewhere to set up and get to work has been a blessing.

“We’re only a short walk away from the office as well, so it has been very convenient.

“The Suncorp Stadium staff have been terrific, and they are working hard to get us back into our regular office as quickly as possible.”
