Regional expos reach final peak in Mount Isa
The overwhelming success of the regionally held 2009 FOGS Indigenous Employment and Careers Expos reached a final peak in Mount Isa on Wednesday 9 September.

Over 500 Indigenous job seekers from Mount Isa and surrounding regions were attracted to the expo which featured the attendance of Former Origin Greats Sam Backo, Michael Bani, Arthur Beetson, Allan Langer, Gene Miles and Carl Webb as well as 35 prominent Queensland employment, education and training providers exhibiting available opportunities.
The 'sold out' expo had a capacity number of booths filled by an impressive list of exhibitors including Greyhound Australia, James Cook University, TAFE Queensland, Tourism Queensland, Xstrata and Woolworths. The job seekers and Origin Greats also enjoyed being shown the 'ins and outs' of a fire brigade and its equipment by fire officers of the Department of Community Safety.
FOGS executive chairman Gene Miles said the success of the Mount Isa expo topped off the overwhelming regional support the expo had already received from the Indigenous communities of Townsville, Rockhampton, Cairns, Mackay, and surrounding regions.
"The widespread support of the expo by Indigenous communities throughout regional Queensland has meant job seekers have made the most of the opportunities on offer and found jobs that satisfy their skills and interests," Miles said.
"FOGS now look ahead to the final expo to be held this year at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. We anticipate this event to build on its regional success," he said.
